We keep track of the success rates and average returns of tens of thousands of analysts and ranks them. Only the best 2 - 5% of analysts are considered for the Top Stock Picks list. Alpha collects the predictions made by the top performing analysts and only stocks with a large consensus make it onto the Top Stock Picks list. Stock picking can often be subjective and biased. Requiring agreement ensures that these factors are reduced as much as possible, leaving only the highest quality stocks.
Of the stocks that have consensus, Alpha computes the predicted upside of each one every day using the average analysts price targets and then ranks them. The ranks are based mostly on the number of analyst recommendations and the predicted upside, but several other factors are considered such as the average rank of the analysts, the recentness of the recommendations, fundamental factors, and technical indicators.
